Our Story

Our Story

Some of the most powerful movements don't start with a plan; they start with a decision.

In early 2019, two friends decided they wanted more out of life. There was no complex blueprint, just a desire for a healthier lifestyle and the motivation to actually move. They started simple, walking the flat stretches of Airport Road. It became their laboratory for early morning conversations, brainstorming sessions, and the first few videos shared on their statuses.

The First Climb and The Forging

As the group grew from two to five, the flat roads were no longer enough. To truly test themselves, they looked toward the hills. Their first real challenge wasn't a long trail, but Mountain Spring. It was short, but it was a revelation. It humbled the group instantly and set a new standard for what they were capable of.

That core five spent the better part of a year finding their rhythm. With Mountain Spring as their foundation, they began pushing further into the terrain, conquering Hill Road, winding through Jackshill, and scaling Long Mountain. Every location added a new chapter and every climb made the bond tighter.

Then, the world came to a standstill. When the pandemic hit Jamaica in early 2020 and lockdowns began, many waited for life to return to normal. We chose to keep moving. Working within the 5 AM to 8 PM curfew windows, we used every available hour to hike and train. The discipline required to stay consistent through 2020 and 2021, one of the hardest seasons most of us had ever lived through, didn't break us; it forged us. What could have killed the movement before it even had a name instead solidified our identity.

The Open Invitation

As we filmed our journeys, the curiosity from the outside grew. "Where is that?" "When are you going?" "Can I link?" The answer was always the same: The invite is open. We never recruited. We never chased. If you wanted to be there, you just showed up. You essentially invited yourself. That spirit of self selection became the heartbeat of our community, a group of people who were there because they truly wanted to be.

Lifestyle Hikers Today

What began as two friends on Airport Road eventually transitioned into a dedicated WhatsApp group and a flourishing community. Today, Lifestyle Hikers consists of over 50 members, with more than 200 hikes completed and 50 different trails explored across Jamaica.

We didn't build this through marketing or pressure. We built it through consistency, good energy, and the simple act of always showing up. We're not stopping anytime soon.

"It's usually a challenge waking up at 4:00am to be at the meeting spot by 5:00am on a day you should be resting, but I like a challenge and the group is so supportive and fun that you push through regardless. The feeling you get accomplishing such a climb and seeing how beautiful Jamaica is, is just breathtaking. I just love hiking with the group. Remember, it's a hike, not a race.
